How to stay at Hilton Hotel at a low price
We know that the most valuable use of Hilton’s points is to exchange for free accommodation. In fact, many people go to Hilton for this reason. In fact, many hotels in Hilton have their point room costs much cheaper than the cash price, and the low cost of this point room can be achieved by purchasing points directly. I have introduced in many previous articles the method of buying points to exchange for point room and staying at Hilton at a low price. Let’s summarize it today.
1. Why use points to exchange for free room
- Cheap!
Why is it cheap? Because the cost of some hotels exchanging points for point rooms is cheaper than the cash price, and it is much cheaper.
- Tax exemption
We know that no matter what type of cash price, you need to charge additional service fees and taxes, but you don’t need to use points to exchange. When you compare the cash cost and the point room cost, don’t forget this tax cost.
- Five free and one free
Members of Hilton Silver Card and above also enjoy the preferential policy of “five free and one free”. They can redeem points for more than five consecutive nights of accommodation for free every fifth night. That is to say, 4 night points can be exchanged for 5 nights.
- Reward points
A good policy that distinguishes Hilton point rooms from other hotel groups is that point rooms can also be rewarded for point activities. As long as the reward rules of the point activities are not based on the consumption amount, that is, based on the point activities of stay and night, the point rooms are considered valid for occupancy.
- Free cancellation
We know that a room type of Hilton Hotel will have multiple prices according to different terms, and the cheapest price is usually the advance price or promotion price. However, the terms of these prices are generally stipulated that they cannot be cancelled, and the point room is not only cheap, but also can be cancelled for free before a certain time. This is very useful for people with uncertain itinerary.
2. Cost of purchasing points and point rooms
The reason why point rooms are cheap is that the cost of purchasing point rooms is lower than that of cash rooms.
We know that points can be purchased through Hilton’s official website, and Hilton will launch several sales promotions every year. The biggest promotion is 100% reward (buy one free one) or 50% discount. There were five promotions in 2018, three of which were to buy one and get one free.
The cost of buying one free for one is $5/1000 cents. We will calculate which Hilton hotels are worth exchanging for point rooms based on this cost.
3. Which hotels are worth redeeming with points
According to experience, Hilton’s points are the most cost-effective to exchange for hotels with 5000 points per night or 10000 points per night. The cost is $25 per night and $50 per night respectively.
When the points are exchanged for some high-end hotels, the value of Hilton points shows its greatest power, and the cost can even be 20% lower than the cash price. For example:
- Conrad Hotel, Lungri Island, Maldives (Gangli Island)
- Conrad Bora Bora Nui, Tahiti
- Grand Waila a Waldorf Astoria Resort, Hawaii
For other hotels, you only need to calculate the cost of the point room based on the purchase share of “$5/1000”, and then compare the cash cost to see whether it is worth exchanging points. It should be noted that the number of points exchanged for hotels may be increased during the peak season.
4. How to query and use point reservation?
- After entering the Hilton official website, log in to your Hilton Honors Guest Club member account.
- When selecting the check-in date and inquiring the price on the hotel’s introduction page, check “Use Honorary Guest Club Points”.
- Or check “Hilton Honorary Guest Points” on the query page, and then continue.
- Or check “Pay with Points” in the “House Type” of the “Filter Criteria” on the left side of the page displaying the house type price.
- Then you can see the price of the point room in the “Price Plan”.
- As long as there are enough points on your account, click “Select” to enter the order page to fill in and submit the order.
- At present, Hilton Mobile App does not support the point exchange function.
5. Precautions
- Each Hilton member account can only buy 80000 cents per year, plus 160000 cents for one free. So what if the points are not enough? It doesn’t matter. You can register multiple accounts with your family’s information to purchase points, and then summarize them into one account through the point pool. Each account can transfer out 500000 points and receive 2 million points at most every year.
- You can only buy points if you have registered with Hilton Honorary Guest Club for more than 90 days or more and have a record of one stay. New members cannot buy points. So if you don’t have an account yet, it is recommended to register one right now. If you need to buy points urgently, you can try this method: after registering for more than 30 days, book a room that can be cancelled at any hotel, and then try to buy it, and then cancel the room.
- Because Hilton’s point rooms are really too cheap, but the supply is limited, especially in the peak season, they will be fully booked soon, so the sooner you exchange the point rooms, the better. Before you buy points, you may choose a date to see if you can redeem them.
- Only silver card, gold card and diamond card members can enjoy five free and one discount. After registration, you can upgrade your silver card by staying four times and one night at a time. If you stay in Hilton Garden Hotel, the cost is about $300. Before December 31, 2018, you can also get a silver card for free through this method. Silver card has nothing to do with treatment. You can get gold card and diamond card through membership challenge. Above the gold card, you can get free breakfast and room upgrade.
6. Can Anyone Use Corporate discount codes?
The answer: No
While similar to car rental corporate codes, what makes hotel corporate codes hard to use is that they are much more diligent about asking for identification to prove that you are associated to the company your code is for.
With car rentals you can get away with it as there’s no strong enforcement but with hotels it’s an 80% chance and up.
If you are affiliate with the company (employee, customer, vendor), you can take advantage of these negotiated rates.
Some say that in Asia, they check 100% of the time while in Europe and in North America they are less than 10% but that may be an urban legend. Ultimately, if you use these codes, chances are pretty high you’ll be asked for ID. If you want to try, please read: Hilton corporate codes.
